the multiple legs tag is stupid

BUR #68261 is pending approval.

create alias multiple_legs -> 3+_natural_legs
mass update 3+_natural_legs (cyborg OR android OR mecha OR robot OR mechanical_legs) -> -3+_natural_legs 3+_legs
create implication 3_legs -> 3+_legs
create implication 5+_legs -> 3+_legs
create implication 9+_legs -> 5+_legs
create implication 3+_natural_legs -> 3+_legs

2 is a multiple. this should be called something else.

i propose calling it "natural" legs and moving the mecha legs to a broader tag. i'm not sure if extra legs can fit into this because if a creature naturally has 0 to 1 legs they can get an extra one without going over 3.

btw since the tag is 50% 4-legged taurs i started tagging 3/5+ leg counts.

i also noticed a lot of spiders that have spider "legs" on their backs that they don't use as legs at all walking on their two damn feet like some damn human. this pollutes the leg tag imo since the "legs" are usually used more like arms than like legs. idk what to do with them but for now i tagged them limbs from back.

remind me why we're making this distinction again?

because it's pretty hard to find monsters/characters that grew a monstrous third leg if you put all taurs/spider girls/3+ legged mechas in the same tag as them

it needs to be gardened tbh

I don't like all 9+ legs posts also being tagged 5+ legs and 3+ legs. I would only put the + on one tag, similar to 6+girls. Using odd numbers feels wrong too, considering the number of legs most monster girls have. I also don't like how it works with characters that have three more legs just out of frame, even if that's where the + shines.

I especially don't like the idea of all 3 legs posts also being tagged 3+ legs.

I'm not sure why I would search this instead of the specific animal, especially as it doesn't allow me to search a specific number of legs. I would rather other things in the image get counters first.

if you want to keep the distinction, you could call it something like natural extra legs vs unusual extra legs, since the current names are piss-poor and it shows. but again, i'm more keen on just ditching this and filing everything under extra legs. extra_legs -monster_girl is right there.

3 legs would be tagged 3+ legs because the idea was to just rename the existing multiple legs tag which is 3 legs and up. obviously if it's 3 legs and up then 3 is also 3+.

it also makes sense to work like this imo since then you can also use the tags in negative search like arachne -5+_legs

basically right now we have all these different leg counts in a single tag which makes it impossible to filter anything when a large portion of them are 4-legged horse-taurs and 6/8-legged spider-taurs.

using animal doesn't work since taurs aren't even tagged with an animal like horse and there are also exceptions like

i guess we could have odd number of legs instead of 3 legs but then it would include 1-legged monsters (btw do we even have a tag for 1-legged monsters??)

if you try to ~multiple_legs ~extra_legs -taur -monster_* you'll notice it's still full of "natural" legs by monsters, creatures, etc. it's also confusing that there are taurs, taur exoskeletons, characters with 3+ mechanical legs, robots, etc. that is still kind of "natural" imo if mechas are

maybe the tags should work like this

  • 3+ legs for humans, mechas and taurs + animals with a unusual number of legs
  • extra legs for humans with more than 2 HUMAN legs (not mechanical legs!), dogs/horses with more than 4 legs, etc.

then we don't need "natural" legs since that's pretty much the default when taurs are counted and we can remove everything that looks like it didn't grow an extra leg from the extra legs tag including monsters that don't have a "natural" number of legs to begin with

extra legs, 3+ legs
extra legs, 5+ legs
5+ legs, but it's a monster so not extra
3 legs, but it's mechanical so not extra

extra legs might be better off retooled into an unusual leg count tag. Arachne with fewer or greater than 8 legs would be included.

hexapod seems to have been made for six legged robots. multipedal robot should probably exist (don't know if multipedal mecha is necessary).

Tags for 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9+ legs make sense--as long as 9+ legs doesn't become all millipedes. (Alternatively: there's currently no too many legs tag, but creatures with 9+ legs would seem like a good baseline, while people probably wouldn't tag regular many-legged bugs in such a tag.)

taur, mechanical taur, and robots covers most of multiple legs. What's left? leggy monsters?
