monster

A big, scary fictional animal or non-human beast.

They are usually depicted as dangerous and aggressive, with a strange or frightening appearance. Monsters usually resemble bizarre, deformed, otherworldly, or mutated animals, or entirely unique creatures of varying sizes. They are often featured as enemies in video games.

For creatures that don't seem appropriate to label as a monster (particularly those that are not big and scary), see creature instead.

For Japanese giant monsters, see Kaiju. For tentacle monsters, see tentacles. For the series, see Monster (manga).
